Are painful events from your past keeping you trapped?
Does it feel like you are desperately stuck in survival mode? Are you struggling with chronic feelings of fear and anxiety, or anger, grief, depression, overwhelm?
Has your life been defined by lack rather than love, pain rather than pleasure, toxicity rather than tenderness?
Despite everything you and others have done to bring about lasting change, do you somehow still find yourself repeating old patterns of harmful, self limiting, unwanted behavours?
What if things could be different?
What if you could have a greater sense of safety and security, of comfort and contentment, of hope and happiness?
What if you could feel at peace with yourself and your place in the world?
What if you could become the person you'd really like to be, living the life you'd really like to live?
What if you could heal, recover and grow from the deep seated wounds of unresolved trauma?

Thank you for giving my son back his life. I will be forever grateful. You have changed his life and mine beyond all recognition. He's able to do things he never thought were possible. What other people take for granted but have always been a big deal for him. You lifted a huge weight off my shoulders and gave my son the chance of a happy future. You are a life saver.

What can I say? The nightmares and flashbacks have gone. How did you do that?
Those horrible sickening feelings that used to appear from nowhere and take over my whole body and fill my brain until it felt like I was going to implode are a thing of the past, just like all the horrors that caused them. Thank you soooo much for helping me be free from the terrible terrifying stuff that's been the root of so many problems for so long.
Finally I feel I can breathe and sleep and laugh and be the me I was always too frightened to be!

It's been such a relief to work with a therapist who truly understands cptsd and actually 'gets it'. I wish I had met you years ago. You really helped me make sense of the many childhood traumas I experienced and the consequences I've been struggling with all my adult life. With your lovely soothing voice and your calm, friendly, reassuring manner, you have made the darkest saddest of places brighter. Thanks so much Theresa!

If someone told me I could feel this good about myself and my life I don't think I would have believed them. I had hoped things might get better, especially with my relationships, but I honestly wasn't expecting so many positive changes. I'm very grateful for everything you have done to help me.

COMPLEX TRAUMA
& C-PTSD
Complex Trauma has been defined as:
"traumatic experiences involving multiple events with interpersonal threats during childhood or adolescence."
"exposure to multiple traumatic events, often of an interpersonal nature, and the long-term effects of this exposure.
Complex trauma typically begins in early childhood, is recurrent or longstanding, and is inflicted by others. Complex trauma can affect various aspects of a person's development, functioning, and well-being"
Lived experience of Complex Trauma may lead to the development of
Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)
C-PTSD is now widely recognised as a separate condition from PTSD.
Whilst it may share the symptoms of PTSD, it is characterised by an additional cluster of symptoms of a more personal and relational nature. The resulting complex, chronic, and pervasive nature of C-PTSD can have severe long term harmful effects.
Extensive research has shown that the greater Adverse Childhood Experiences someone has been subjected to, the higher the likelihood of them experiencing Adverse Adult Outcomes, seriously affecting so many aspects of their lives, including their physical and mental health.
It is the debilitating nature of these outcomes which can have such a concerning effect on not only the sufferer and those who care about them, but on society as a whole.
Sadly, C-PTSD is an often misunderstood, misdiagnosed and mistreated condition.
As a consequence of experiencing complex trauma, we learn how to survive, rather than being taught how to live.
As a result, and despite all we do to change things, we often end up living our lives by default, frequently on other people's terms and based on self limiting choices, which, by necessity, tend to be reactive rather than proactive.
We can find ourselves habitually triggered, persistently retraumatised and driven into a perpetual freeze response state, where, not surprisingly, we become increasingly isolated and disconnected in all manner of ways.
And yet, in spite of all of this, individuals are able to thrive rather than just survive in desperation.
It is testament to the human spirit that even the most wounded amongst us can turn their deepest pain into purpose, amazing others with their awe inspiring post traumatic growth.
But for most of us, the prospect of simply being able to live a more consistently peaceful, more contented daily life, would be enough.
You may be passionately seeking to inspire others and change the world.
Or you may be desperately searching for a glimmer of inspiration in the midst of overwhelming challenges, looking for the meaning and hope you need just to be able to carry on.
Or you may be comfortably numb, stuck somewhere in between ....... or going from one emotional crisis to yet another without really knowing why.
In whatever way complex trauma is influencing your life at the moment, The iHOW Method™ is here to help you heal the old wounds which continue to cause unnecessary suffering. Enabling space for recovery, growth, freedom and creativity, so that rather than being endured, life can be enjoyed.
The fact that you are here, exploring ways to improve your life, shows just how much resilience you already have. Are you ready to tap into that hard won source of power and use it to create a life of your choosing?

“If we could somehow end child abuse and neglect, the eight hundred pages of DSM-5 (Diagnostic & Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders) would be shrunk to a pamphlet in two generations.”

THE iHOW METHOD™
As part of nature, we recognise that we are all connected, but equally, as human beings we are also all unique.
Each one of us travels through life with our own individual character and personality, developing our own individual skills and talents, experiencing our own individual fears, worries and vulnerabilities, and focusing on our own individual achievements, hopes, dreams and aspirations, in our own unique way.
Each person relates the stories of their life in His or Her Own Words** and each person feels and expresses their pain, their pleasure and their passions in His or Her Own Way **
And so too do each of us heal, recover and grow, in our own way, and at our own pace.
As humans we may share a biology, a physiology, a psychology, a spirituality, and a place within a society, but how we experience life within these dimensions is unique to each individual.
Complex Trauma profoundly shapes our experience of life, as well as our view of ourselves.
Our perspective becomes one of fear, lack, shame and loss, and much to our dismay and disappointment, life acurately and repeatedly reflects this back to us.
One of the great tragedies of this pattern of pain is the growing loss of connection with our true self. The beautiful undamaged soul that we really are, underneath all of the hurt.
Our commitment is to safely accompany you on your unique journey of discovery, to help you connect with all that you are, and all that you can be, and with what you and the world have to offer.
Although recognising and managing triggers to avoid retraumatisation is necessary, it is only when we get to the heart of what really motivates us to act in a particular way that we can make the lasting changes we desire.
By understanding, expressing and releasing the pain of the past and harnessing our natural innate qualities and inner resources, in our own words and in our own way, our pure authentic self, with all its untapped potential, is able to emerge. And in doing so, new, more inspired and life affirming ways of thinking, feeling, behaving and believing can evolve.
With compassionate understanding and sensitivity, The iHOW Method™ enables you to be gently guided through and beyond the layers of pain and trauma to a more loving, peaceful place of self acceptance and towards a better balanced and more fulfilling life.
Whatever, or whoever, has led you to become inspired to heal old wounds, The iHOW Method™ is here to help and support you.
At The iHOW Method™ we are dedicated to raising awareness, aiding prevention, and improving the provision of specialist resources needed by anyone, in a personal or professional capacity, whose life is impacted by complex trauma.
** We are an open minded and open hearted organisation and recognise that the terms his / her are now not as inclusive as we would like. The iHOW Method was conceived many years ago when traditional male / female terminology was standard.
As befitting our ethos, please feel free to replace the letter 'H' with something meaningful that resonates with you. And if like us you are partial to a meaningful acronym, perhaps something that reflects our purpose. In the Heart's Own Way, In Healing's Own Way, In Humanity's Own Way.........
